GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Whitehaven opened region play Friday night with a hard-fought 7–6 victory over Germantown, surviving a defensive battle that came down to the final moments.
Neither offense found much room to operate throughout the night, with both defenses keeping the game within one possession. Germantown managed to put six points on the board, but Whitehaven answered with seven and held on when it mattered most.
The game remained a one-score battle from start to finish, putting pressure on every possession and every defensive stop. Whitehaven’s defense ultimately made enough plays to keep Germantown from finding the end zone for the second time and secured the Tigers’ second straight shutout-related defensive victory after blanking Fairley the previous week.
For Whitehaven, the win moves the Tigers to 4–1 overall and 1–0 in region play. Germantown falls to 2–2 overall and 0–1 in the region. With the margin separated by only one point, the result was a reminder that region games can come down to execution on both sides of the football.
