NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Ensworth finished strong in a Week 1 win over Whitehaven High School, earning a 24-8 victory in a hard-fought season-opening matchup.
Whitehaven battled throughout the contest and cut the deficit to just two points, 10-8, in the third quarter. However, the Tigers struggled to maintain momentum, with sloppy play and missed opportunities proving costly.
Offensively, Whitehaven relied heavily on the ground game and did not establish a consistent passing attack to keep Ensworth’s defense guessing. With the offense unable to consistently move the ball and capitalize on opportunities, Whitehaven was unable to complete the comeback.
Ensworth responded late, scoring twice in the fourth quarter to create separation and seal the 24-8 victory.
The loss drops Whitehaven to 0-1 to open the season, while Ensworth begins the year 1-0. Whitehaven now moves on to Week 2 with a highly ranked matchup against Houston, which demolished Germantown in Week 1. The Tigers have a tough week ahead of them.
